umanity may have settled untold worlds in the
Koronus Expanse, but only the most audacious of
Rogue Traders would dare claim that it asserts any
true dominion over this lawless region of space. For every
conquered planet there are dozens more under the control of
natural predators, foul xenos races, or other enemies ready to
contest mankind’s rightful destiny to rule. Explorers operating
in the Expanse are sure to encounter these threats in their
journeys, either by accident or design, and must be ready lest
their ship and their profits be lost.

Chapter 4 introduces a system to create new random xenos
creatures for

games. GMs can use this generator
to produce unique beasts to provide profits or threaten the
Explorers (usually both), as well as dangerous plant life and
even primitive sentient races ripe for exploitation and possible
introduction into the Imperium, either willing or unwilling.

All NPC creatures and characters are also assumed to
have the appropriate Weapon Training Talents for any
weapons that appear in their profile, unless otherwise
noted. It is up to the GM to determine what other
weapons the NPC might be capable of using if a special
situation arises. Similarly, it is assumed these beings also
are versed in the knowledge necessary to perform their
livelihoods, and the GM may also deem that they have
other knowledge or lore depending on the adventure.

B
ESTIARY
is a compendium of the dark
creatures and xenos races awaiting Explorers in their travels
through the Expanse. Some of the confrontations might
be part of planned Endeavours, but others are likely to be
chance encounters with lethal monsters or hostile powers.
Also included are commentaries from Arch-Militant Lorayne
Thornhallow. Her current employment as bodyguard to
Rogue Trader Tallen Alberse is perhaps her most hazardous
position yet, as Alberse is in constant pursuit of new trophies
and glorious adventures. Thornhallow’s role is to keep him
alive in these ventures—something she is evidently very good
at, having weathered countless lethal encounters in the service
of her patron. Her observations on the creatures and races
should be taken seriously, as they represent the first-hand
knowledge of someone who has survived to tell the tale.
The enemies detailed in this book are accompanied by
adventure seeds and other hooks that GMs can use to import
these new dangers into
R
OGUE
T
RADER
games. Each of the
following chapters concentrates on one type of threat, ranging
from bestial monsters to predatory alien races to the terrors
that lurk beyond reality. The final chapter offers the GM a
system for creating new and unique threats for Explorers to
face in the Koronus Expanse.

RESENTATION
In all the entries presented in this book, the characteristics,
movement values, and weapon damages have been
presented with all modifications included. Weapon
damages include the effects of the enemy’s Strength
Bonus and Talents that always apply to damage such as
the Crushing Blow Talent. Talents, Traits, and special
rules that have a variable effect or only apply in particular
circumstances have not been combined into the profiles
presented here. It is also important to note that these
creatures and NPCs are not necessarily bound to follow
the same strictures for their profiles as Player Characters.

Chapter 2 covers the major sentient xenos races in this
lawless region of space. These represent perils much
greater than any single creature, for here the Explorers
face powerful fleets, mighty armies, deadly weaponry,
and other dangers that could not only imperil their
lives but also their very dynasties. This chapter
