moves freely. When the handle is released, the STOP brakes, then
jams the rope.*
6B. Device on the anchor
Pull hard on the load side of the rope: the rope must jam in the
device and the cam must pivot.*
*If not, check that the rope is correctly installed.
WARNING: if your device still does not work (rope slippage), retire
it or replace the removable friction elements (spare parts: cam or
sheave).
WARNING: do not allow anything to block the device or any of
its components (cam, handle). Any constraint on the device
negates the braking action.
7. Descent
To descend, press the handle with one hand while holding the
braking side of the rope with the other hand. You control the descent
by varying your grip on the braking side of the rope. Releasing the
handle helps to stop the descent.
Warning: always hold the braking side of the rope.
Warning, with a dry rope, heavy loads or repeated descents, the
temperature of certain (touchable) parts of the device can exceed
48 °C. In this case, the use of gloves is recommended.
7A. Additional braking
Pass the braking side of the rope through a standard carabiner or a
FREINO.
7B. Disabling the self-braking function: exceptional use
Additional braking must be used if the self-braking function is
disabled.
7C. Stopping with hands free
- Short duration tie-off.
- Long duration tie-off.
8. Rescue evacuation - EN 341
class A (1997)
Authorized rope diameter: 10-11 mm (EN 1891 static or semi-static
rope, or EN 892 dynamic rope).
Maximum descent height: 100 m.
Normal working load: 30-150 kg
Loads greater than 150 kg are not recommended due to possible
high impact forces on other elements of the system.
8A. Rescue evacuation from a ixed anchor-point
Device on the anchor: the braking side of the rope must be redirected
through a braking carabiner.
8B. Rescue evacuation from the harness
Device on the harness: Make sure you are well-braced, attached to an
anchor with a lanyard, and use a braking carabiner.
9. Heavy loads, exceptional uses for
experts only
In exceptional cases, for example accompanied descents, the
maximum working load - indicated in the EN 341  standard - may be
insuficient. Descent tests without impact loading (done in the lab)
have shown that with precautions taken, the STOP can hold a load of
up to 200 kg.
WARNING: these operations must only be performed by rescuers
speciically trained in these uses. Maximum load: 200 kg. No shock
load permitted. Additional braking required.
WARNING: for heavy loads, the braking effectiveness of the STOP
can be considerably reduced with certain ropes (new ropes, small
diameter ropes, etc.).
10. Other uses
- Progress capture and hauling.
11. Supplementary information
regarding standards (EN 365)
Rescue plan
You must have a rescue plan and the means to rapidly implement it
in case of dificulties encountered while using this equipment.
Anchors
The anchor point for the system should preferably be located above
the user’s position and should meet the requirements of the EN 795
standard (minimum strength of 10 kN).

Ropes
EN 1891 static or semi-static rope, or EN 892 dynamic rope, 9 to
12 mm in diameter.
WARNING: certain ropes can be slippery and reduce the braking
effectiveness of the STOP (ropes that are new, icy, wet, muddy, etc.).
8 to 9 mm ropes
The STOP is not certiied for ropes less than 9 mm in diameter.
Warning, the self-braking function may not work with these ropes. It
can be used as a simple descender, requiring additional braking (see
diagram 7A). Verify that the rope is compatible with the method of
use required.
5. Setting up the descender
Connect the STOP to your harness or to an anchor with a locking
carabiner. Open the moving side plate. Insert the rope as indicated
by the diagrams engraved on the device. Close the moving side plate
and safety gate on the locked carabiner.
6. Function test
Before each use, verify that the rope is correctly installed and that
the device is working properly. You must always use a backup safety
system when performing this test.
6A. Device on the harness
Attach yourself to the anchor with a lanyard. Gradually put your
weight onto the device while holding the braking side of the rope.
